Swildons Therion Survey Project Workflows ----------------------------------------- This document provides notes on the data processing workflows used to capture and add data into the Therion project. New Survey Trips ================ Using Pocket Topo 1) Surveying using PocketTopo on a PDA underground. 2) Copy the .top file from PocketTopo into the 'PocketTopo' folder in the project. 3) Export the text format from PocketTopo using the same filename as the .top file (but with the file extension .txt). 4) Export the Therion format data from PocketTopo using the same filename as before but with '_th.txt' as the suffix. Using Cave Converter and Survex 5) Convert the Text export file from PocketTopo into Survex format using Footleg's Cave Converter program. 6) Merge this data into the master Survex project file. Flag duplicate legs as duplicates. Using Therion a) Data 7) For each survey trip, create a new Therion Text project file containing a survey / endsurvey block. Import the survey data into this from the Therion export file, creating a centreline block inside the survey block. Add team and copyright information into this new survey centreline block. 8) Open the corresponding Text export file from PocketTopo, and copy and station comments into the .th file centreline data. 9) Open the Swildons_Centreline.th file and add an input statement to include the new data .th file. 10) Add equates into the Swildons_Centreline.th file to attach the new survey data to the existing centreline. 11) Remove obsolete equate legs from within centreline data block (zero length legs). 12) Mark any duplicate legs as duplicates. 13) Compile project to check data is processed and appears in lox model correctly. b) Sketches x) For each survey trip, create a new Therion sketch project file, and import the plan drawing into this from the Therion export file. y) If the entire set of survey data for the sketch is in a single .th file then add the input statement into that .th file to import the sketch (.th2 file) inside the survey block in that .th file. If the sketch covers survey data from multiple .th files then add the input statements into the Swildons_Centreline.th file directly after the input statements for the set of .th data files covering the sketch. --- Updating Sketches with Additional Data ====================================== Sometimes Existing PocketTopo sketches get updated on later surveying trips with details not captured on the original trip. In these cases, this workflow enables the sketch to be updated in the master Therion project so that the additional data and drawings can be incorporated into the already processed data from the original trip. 1) Export the text and Therion format data from the updated sketch in PocketTopo as for a new trip. 2) Create a temporary new project text file in Therion and import the Therion export data. 3) Copy and paste updated data into the project file from the original trip. Multiple centreline blocks with different dates and team information are not supported inside the same survey, so a new survey file is needed for any new data from a later trip. 4) Create a temporary new map project file and import the drawing into the map editor from the Therion export file. 5) Take the .xvi sketch file which the previous step generated, and either rename it to replace the original .xvi file or update the filename in the corresponding .th2 file to reference the new .xvi file. 6) Reopen the .th2 file in the map editor to see the updated background sketch. The scraps can now be ammended.
